Welcome to the JAIEL Website!

The Japan Association of International Economic Law (JAIEL) was founded in 1991 as an academic association for the study of international economic and business law. It has some 450 members, who are university professors, researchers, graduate students, lawyers, government officials and private practitioners. The areas of law that are covered by the Association include international law, WTO law, economic law, private international law, international business law, tax law and intellectual property law.

The Association’s annual meeting is held normally in late October or early November for one or two days (see the Past Annual Meetings). The meetings are conducted in Japanese. Occasionally, international symposia and lecture meetings are organized by the Association which are attended by experts from foreign countries and are conducted in English. The Association also publishes the Nihon Kokusai Keizaiho Nenpo (Yearbook of International Economic Law) (see thePast Issues of the Yearbook).

Twenty-five out of forty members of the Council, serving three year terms, are elected by the all members of the JAIEL. The remaining fifteen members are nominated by the General Meeting in accordance with the set quota of age groups, regions and fields of expertise among the members, and also in consideration of the gender balance. Two Director-Generals, one from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the other from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, serve as ex-officio members of the Council. Executive officers, namely, President, Secretary-General, Treasurer, Director of Committee of Research Management and Editor-in-Chief of the Yearbook, are chosen among the council members. There are two committees, the Committee of Research Management and the Editorial Committee: the former is in charge of planning the annual meetings, and the latter of editing the Yearbook (see the Officers of the Association).

The JAIEL, in order to realize prompt digital publication of the Yearbook, decided to notify by this web site to all the authors of the past articles of the issues of the Yearbook. To all the authors of “International Economic Law”, and “Yearbook of the Japan Association of International Economic Law”, please see our notice. (December 15, 2017)
